CHOOSING THE RIGHT HAIRCARE REGIMEN

INTRODUCTION:

One of the major concerns for women are related to hair and hair-fall. After undergoing many treatments that gives more volume, shine and reducing frizz, they consult a trichologist. Many women choose the wrong product for their hair for the wrong condition and it does not result in the hair style / type that we expect and want. Less conditioning does not give the shine or frizz we want and too much conditioning makes the hair look greasy and sticky. There are many products available in your nearest drugstore labelled as Volume, Damage repair, Colour etc. These categories include products from shampoo, conditioner, hair moose and many hair taming products.

Volume: This is often sought by women who have naturally fine hair. They often use styling products like hair straightening or hair curling or often blow drying inducing the said damage. So they look for shampoos that give some extra volume to their hair.

Damage repair: Women seeking for damage repair have hair which is damaged from over heating and over styling of hair on a daily basis or often enough to have hair damage and breakage.

Colour: Women who have done hair colouring and want the colour to last, they then use shampoos and conditioners that give them the desired effect. They are often termed as colour lasting shampoos or colour stay conditioners which are all readily available in the market or drugstores near you.

Frequency of hair wash: The most asked question as to when your hair might need wash is completely upto the habits of the individual. There is no universal rule as to when or how long a person should wash their hair. It can be once daily to once or twice a week or never washing your hair. A few signs that tell you when you need a hair wash can be very evident as the hair might start becoming greasy making it unable for the person to style their hair. Environment also plays a very important role like humidity can alter the times you wash your hair in a week.

How to: SHAMPOO

Generally people with curly hair are required to comb their hair before wetting to achieve the smooth texture and even spread of shampoo. Then, work your way down to the tips of your hair and gently massage the head. Rinse if no foam forms after lathering. Also don’t pile the hair on top of the head as if may cause frizziness and knots in the hair which is not desired.

How to: CONDITION

Conditioning is a very important part of the hair care routine. Many people don’t realise it and tend to ignore it but it does play a really crucial part in the routine. Conditioning can be of various types- frizz free, volume inducing, colour protecting but ultimately, a conditioner is used to restore hair balance and make it healthy. It has many nourishing properties that restore the health and the moisture of the hair follicle. If the person had gone swimming or undergone a few hair bleaching treatments, it’s safe to say that chemicals have penetrated through the hair barrier. For the selection of conditioner, know more about your hair type and choose the one that matches the hair type and use them. Apply the product starting from the tip, unlike shampooing work your way from the tip to the roots. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes depending upon the damage that has been occurred to the hair.

TO SUMMARISE:
